What's the difference?

What is the difference between following the party line of the Roman Catholic church, and "100% faithfulness to Jesus Christ and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church"?

(That's a quote from someone replying to a comment I made about people following the party line regarding gay marriage).

  1. It's a trick question. The person who asked it thinks the Magisterium and Jesus are the same. There is no right anwer because the question is totally skewed to the point of meaninglessness.

  2. Well, they didn't ask it as a question. I said they were following party line. The reply was that no, not party line, but rather they were following "100% faithfulness to Jesus Christ and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church."

  3. I'd say following the magisterium is the smae as the party line, but following Jesus is something else entirely. Have you read Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials"? Interesting take on the magisterium.

  4. I will check out that book.

I agree with what you say as Magisterium and Jesus. I think this guy is suggesting that they are the same. If you wanna follow one, you gotta follow the other.

    Obviously I disagree.
